ENAMELED AND PIERCED HIDDEN LANTERN PENDANT with Joy Funnell
    October 15-16

In these two day-long sessions you will learn many exciting techniques while creating an open column pendant, enameled on one side and pierced on the other. Inside, you will have the option to add glowing gold to shine out through the pierced areas.

At left: finished pendant, front. At right, reverse side.

You will create your texture plate for the enameled side and then add a design onto the clay surface inside the frame to go under the enamel. Around the area to be enameled we will set 2mm accent stones with textured surrounds.

The reverse of the pendant will have a textured design of your choice and pierced out areas to give a wonderful three-dimensional effect. The top of the pendant has a radiating design with hanging loop.

Once the pendant is finished, fired and polished, we'll enamel it with transparent colors to accentuate the textured surface. The optional gold completes the pendant and a patina brings out texture definition. Fun, challenging and not for the faint-hearted!!!  )

JOYFUL SPINNER RINGS with Joy Funnell

    October 17

Spinner rings, fidget rings, worry rings... call them what you like, there is something endlessly fascinating about twiddling a beautiful little band of silver decorated with sparking stones round and round on your finger!

In this fun, one-day workshop, you will learn how to make the two separate rings of a spinner ring so one is inside the other. We'll add lovely textures to both rings, carve edges and create super smooth tactile finishes, then set 2mm stones into the ring for added sparkling bling. You'll go home wearing your own unique creation.

This spinner does not use any premade rings - you will make everything in Art Clay Silver or PMC3.

    About Joy Funnell

I love colours and I love textures! These two things inspire most of my work. Having started out with traditional jewelry techniques and materials my first encounter with silver clay changed my life. I am passionate about using it and combining it with enamel. I hope I can share the magic with you.”

Joy lives and works in Hastings, East Sussex, UK, and is known for her colorful enamel and silver work.  She was making jewelry for many years as a hobby before she encountered silver clay in 2005 and was hooked. Within a year she trained up to Senior Art Clay Instructor, gave up the day job and leapt into a full time career as a jewelry artisan. In 2009 she was awarded Craftsman status with the Guild of Enamellers.

Joy teaches from her base, as well as nationally and internationally, and has taught at various metal clay and enameling conferences around the world. Her award-winning work has been featured in many magazines and publications. In 2015 she won the Grand Prix Award in the 14th Silver Accessories Contest in Tokyo, Japan.
