Newbie Help- Trivet Marks

  • Hi,

I am so glad to have joined GOG. I have been enameling a short time but am thoroughly enjoying another way to add color to metal.

I am enameling some very small items to compliment my jewelry line. Whether disc, domed flowers, washers or whatever, I am finding it hard to avoid trivet marks. I know that the trivet should just hold the item on the edges but it so hard finding trivets small enough for the size items I am enameling. I just learned to get the enamel to stay on both sides of my items on the first fire, avoiding a major cleaning job (thanks to Jean Van Brederode) but the trivet marks are also a hassle. I have cleaned the trivets frequently. I am also considering putting a coat of Amacote on them.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. And suggestions with photos would be a thrill. The items I'm having the most trouble with range from 0.5" to 1.5". I've used three-point trivets and have tried some small ceramic stilt trivets.

    Help!

Also, it's very hard to keep the glass from filling up the hole I punched in my metal.
