hieee.....i previously have been doing cloissonie....i started with doing jus 1 layer of enamel colors withing the wires. then i started doin layer by layer...ie. i used to fill colors once and fire....and again fill colors and fire until i achieve proper level with my wires....but i noticed with this process...i loosed the brightness, transparency  of my colors..so is it ideal to just fill colors till top and take one fire and finish the peice...or m i goin some where wrong. i use leaded colors.thanksss

    Hi Aarti,

Are you washing your enamels before firing?  You can wash a small amount of enamel in a plastic spoon; the cleaned enamel will give you better transparency and brilliance.  After the enamel has been cleaned, don't fill the wires all the way to the top with each firing.  Wetpack just a thin layer of enamel with each firing, building one firing on top of the next until the wires are full. Thinner layers of enamel will give you better transparency.  An added advantage is that you can do color shading or subtly improve the color by layering different colored transparents on top of each other.  Good luck!

Next washing the enamel well as Melinda wrotes,  you can try adding the colors by mixing ist with a very well washed flux. Try different blend ratios. An other possibility: If the colors have the transparency and  density you want to have, fill up the rest of the cell layer for layer with flux. But be careful !!! Make always tests both for mixing the colors as also for replenish it with flux.  Some colors change their apereance by mixing or covering  with flux dramatically.
