I collect tiny vintage and antique toys. I sand cast one in silver, from the 1950's, the one on the right, and then made the other two versions by refabricating some of the sandcast heads to more reflect the reality of humanity, so children can see their parents or themselves reflected in their toys. Then I made the stand and the enameled plaques, and framed one in copper. The plaques are sifted enamel with iron oxide transfers (printer decals!). I also used overglazes on the alphabet plaque to get close to the colors in the original antique image. I loved that the letters in the alphabet are made from the human body, and they are connected to childhood, connected to language. I also noticed that several letters are missing to make the chart symmetrical. Missing letters that for me correspond to the missing voices in our current societal narrative.
