Thank you very much, Trish -! Here is my "Gold Leaf ( Foil ) - Crackle Effect " process :
Process 1: The fine karat gold leaf is laid down with water on a previously-fired enamel base, transparent dark brown.
No.2: Putting the peice on top of a kiln to dry and warm it well. To avoid trapped air between leaf and enamel base, push down the leaf very gently with soft material (sponge, special paper for gold leaf, etc. )
No.3: Some of my design is created by scratching through or rubbing off gold leaf before firing. ( I scratched off some diagonal lines.)
No.4: and then fired at temperature of 750°C - 780°C , for about 1 – 1.5 minutes . ( ** Not too high °C and Not too long time -! !)
Each firing breaks up the leaf, which can lead to very interesting, if unpredictable, results. * Not every gold foil can creat this interesting crackle-effect though. (Depends on the thickness of the foil, I believe. ) : For this piece, I used the gold leaf of Japanese enamel company.
Thank you very much, Trish -!
