hi virginia, thank you! i have not had a problem without counter enamel on these pieces because the enamel is on the interior rather than the exterior.  the purpose of counter enamel is to even out the expension/conraction pressure exerted on either side of the metal during the heating and cooling process. when a piece is formed, it's way more structurally sound than a flat sheet, especially with thinner gauges of metal.  and since the enamel is on the inside of the piece, any expansion/contraction will pull inward toward the greater mass of enamel.  if the enamel was on the outside of the form, i couldn't get away without a counter enamel because the expansion would pull it in the other direction and it would definitely crack. 

I love your pieces. I have a question though. I was taught that you have to counter enamel the back of everything (so enamel doesn't pop off). Have you had a problem with this. Maybe this applies to very thin guages and if you work thicker, it isn't a
