I've never had any art classes...something on my list of things to do "post divorce"..whenever I finally get there. I love how you associate colors with feelings and experiences too..whether I know it or not at the time, I think I'm trying to express some inner thought, feeling, conflict, etc...every time I make a piece. You are always so warm and helpful...thank you, thank you for that!
Sharon ScaliseThank You Julie - it looks like you use your colors well!! - And the colors seem to come to you better and better as you enamel more and more - but some tips are to consider.

Think about the color wheel - maybe even make one with water colors - or print some from the internet - and put a couple of in front of your bench to let you eye refer too.
Remember complementary colors sit directly opposite each other on the color wheel chart and they make one another "Pop" so consider that when using colors in near chambers for drama.
I usually try to put a lighter shaded color against a darker shaded color in the next chamber to also create more definition between cells.
Refer to nature - even if you are doing very modern, abstract work. I try to keep in mind the amazing colors one sees next to each other in say... Flowers, and Tropical Beaches, Reef Fish, A Forest, Sunsets etc...
Colors resonate in all of nature - we are simply trying to express what has impacted us in our lives, through our work.
In my own work - even though most of my work is rather modern and somewhat abstract - I still see certain closion chamber shapes as having a meaning - say representing a feeling, idea, or even a thing, e.g. water, rivers, sky, universe, individuals, divinity... Or experiences like transition, journey, growth. With each of those represented feelings, things, or experiences I choose certain colors to represent each of them. So the color story emerges from that - and there is a level of continuity through out each series of work due to that. less
