Yes, Heather, it's a little tricky. I use a Smith Little Torch with a #6 or 7 tip. I cut my wire so that 1/4" is sticking out when everything is stacked tightly together. Then I lay the work down, propping as necessary so the wire is sticking straight upward with the full 1/4" exposed. I heat from the side, angling slightly upward to avoid the enamel. Hot and tight flame. Work quickly and pull away as soon as the ball forms. Don't touch the piece for a minute or two till it air cools.
Thanks! I don't clean the silver after the first ball. I used to, but found that it isn't necessary.
