  • Christina L This is great, Mike. Do you engrave the areas out or do you saw the design out and solder two pieces together? How difficult is it for a novice to achieve smooth and straight lines like the Japanese logo in the back of the turtle?
  • Mike Hilton Christina, I etch the cells where the enamel goes. I draw the design on a computer and use a vinyl cutter to create the etching mask. I use ferric nitrate as the mordant.
  • Christina L Ahh, well that makes it much easier, I didn't realize about etching designs. Is fine silver expensive to buy in sheet form? Thanks, Mike.
