    "I have known such a creature . . ." Charles Altamont Doyle

Creatures Real and Imagined explores the ways in which animals and creatures, both real and imagined have been a presence in the visual art as metaphors, objects of fantasy and fear, sources of emotional attachment and connection to the physical and non-physical realms.

Due to the popularity and success of this exhibition in 2016, we are bringing it back for another tour—showing the spectrum of ways in which creatures are conjured, immortalized and depicted in the minds of artists.

‚ÄčOur mixed genre format and diverse jury panel create a genuine opportunity for all artists who enter to be invited for exhibition.

SKYWAY: A Contemporary Collaboration, opening in Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota in June 2017
OPEN CALL to Tampa Bay area artists – please submit your work for SKYWAY, our upcoming regional artist exhibition.

The Tampa Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, and the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art are collaborating on a joint exhibition in the summer of 2017. Skyway will feature the work of selected artists from the four counties served by our respective museums: Hillsborough, Pinellas, Manatee, and Sarasota. Selected artists will be featured across the three venues and will highlight the innovative art created in the Central Florida region.
Artists are encouraged to submit any original artwork, including (but not limited to) paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, photography, video, performance, and site-specific installations. Only original works of art completed after January 2016 are eligible for submission.

This exhibition is not only a celebration of artistic practice in the Tampa Bay area, but also an exercise in collaboration as it is shared between three institutions: the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota; the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg; and the Tampa Museum of Art. Working together, curators from these institutions will provide context for the diversity of art being made in Hillsborough, Manatee, Pinellas, and Sarasota Counties.
