Vitrum Signum painting colours

Hello Daphne.  I can only give you a partial answer to your question but I have used Vitrum Signum paints.  Unfortunately, I have no pictures and the pieces were done as samples and are kicking around with others in my sample box.  Not sure I'd really remember what colors I used but we played with them in class because the instructor did her graduate work in England and brought some vials back to the States.  They were pretty easy to work with.  As I recall, we mixed them with a painting flux and then mixed with a water based medium.  I subsequently ordered one of each color plus their flux (but I'm pretty sure you can use painting flux from Thompson or Enamelworks) from Vitrum Signum although I haven't used them in my own studio yet.  You're correct that they don't have a color chart which is why I ordered one of each--enough to last quite a while!  Shipping was pretty reasonable and only took about a week.  The colors are very concentrated and there's quite a lot in each vial.

You might want to consider playing with china paints.  I just mix them with either a water or oil based medium and paint onto an enameled surface.  There are quite a few sources on line and most have color swatches to help you choose a palette.  They come in tiny vials but you don't need much for most jewelry size pieces.  And there are tons of colors available.

I fire pretty low--around 1325 just to be on the safe side.  Some colors can disappear if fired too hot.

Hope this was some help.  Mary

Thank you so much for your help! I'll definitely look into china paints.

    Daphne:

I've been getting ads for the last week for Kaiser's Black Friday sale http://kaiserglass.com/page32.html

I don't know if they're any good or not, but the price for the kit didn't seem too bad.

Hey guys, I have a question: Does anyone use vitrum signum's painting colours, and if so - what are the colours actually like?

They don't have any swatches for most of the colours on their site, and it's hard imagine from the names (things like 'Rapture Blue' etc...) so I have no idea which to buy.

I tried emailing for more info but no joy. I doubt they'd send me any physical samples as (being a student and crafty in my ways) I've asked other companies for samples and they tend to ignore me assuming I just want free stuff...

So, if anyone uses them and has any images they'd be happy to share that give at least an idea of what these look like fired, this would be a great help to me.
