Can a kiln trivet be made of regular steel sheet ?

I know that the ones for sale are always stainless- but of course I have steel sheet & I need a custom sized trivet .

    Thanks,

    Patty

    Hi Patty,

I would suggest Stainless Steel - I tried to make my own with regular steel and it flakes a great deal and was very mess.

Thanks Trish - I figured there was a reason .

Stainless steel it is - I have some SS wire & might try to make some that way.

    Hallo Patty,

In the 1 Dollar Shops you get very often butter-boxes, serve-platers aso which are from stainless. I think you get such stainless steel home applances also in USA. From those I made my trivets. They works without any problems for years.

Thanks for the idea Edmund- I'll have to check that out.

I did order some SS sheet from an industrial supply place ( McMaster Carr) ,

but good to know alternative sources.

    Thanks again,

    Patty
