I've read different things & hope someone can confirm.
When applying silver foil - you put it down on top of fused enamel ( got that) ,but do you put transparent on top of foil before firing again OR do you fire the foil first ?? Or does it matter ?
Thanks ,
Patty
Hi Patty,
Once you apply foil to an enameled surface, allow the piece to dry completely - then fire it under normal conditions - 1450 - 1500 -
same as you would an enamel piece without foil. You are simply re-firing the bottom coat of enamel under the foil to join the foil to the enamel-
Cool then select your favorite transparent for the next layer.
Thanks Trish .
Does the foil need kiln-fire /water on top before applying transparent or leave it dry ?
Thanks for your help.
Patty
Use a paint brush to move the foil around on a dry enamel surface. Once you have the foil in place, pick up a drop of water with a clean paint brush and place it at the top edge of the foil. The water has a capillary action which will pull the foil to the surface of the enamel - then add another drop of water to the edge further down the foil. Use a brush to gently smooth the foil as you go. Do not use to much water as you will have the foil sliding around. Then let the piece dry and fire.
Thanks Trish, just the info I was hoping for.
