I would say that if it is popping off, your metal underneath is not clean enough - there are oils still left on the metal - scrub well with a good rough cleanser, then sand the surface -

Is this the same batch of enamels you have used successfully in the past or a new batch? If it is a new batch, then there is something up with the product and I would send it back for a fresh one.

You could also try rinsing the enamels a few times to remove the residues that wind up in them during processing. Usually that is always only done with transparents, but this batch might be saved by cleaning- then apply to a few small copper samples to see the results.

Once you have explored a few of these tips and they don't work - RETURN TO SENDER!

Thank you Trish, I will be diligent on making sure the enamel is clean.  And rinse the enamel, and try again.

    All good basic stuff.

    Hello!

Lately I have been having problems with Thompson Foundation White 1030. The enamel has popped off the metal altho it was counter-enameled.  Also, I either fire it too high or not high enough and when I refire it, it has a dirty look to it.  I have used it successfully for a few  years, but now I cannot make it fire to a nice gloss. I use it as a first coat on copper for cloisonne.     Help!!!                                                                                                                                                                                  Mary Rose
