Hello Edmund
You always amaze me with your way of doing things. Do I understand correctly that you solder fine silver using sterling silver as solder ? Also I do not know what ER solder is. Some people feel that fine silver pieces must be joined by fusing and not with solder to withstand the heat necessary to enamel. Obviously this is not the case. I respect your expertise and experience. Thank you for sharing. I have done bench work for a number of years , but I am new to enameling. You are helping me a great deal. Vince
Thanks for sharing. It's very helpful. I do not use silver but copper for enameling and I think that the same method can be used.
In the file, you use IT-solder for findings. I saw that you lived in Germany, I order sometimes here http://www.zujeddeloh.de/. Do you know if they have such solder and what is the name in german ?
Thank you.
Hi Vince,
Thank you for your friendly reply.
It is right. I use Sterling silver for soldering the frames if it made it from Fine silver.
IT-solder is a solder with a higher melting point than extra-hard Silver solder. A longer time ago there was a discussion in Grains of Glass about IT- and Eutectic-solder. Here is the Link: http://grainsofglass.ning.com/forum/topics/eutectic-solder
Fusing or welding of Fine silver is very difficult because Fine silver melts at cyber speed if the welding temperature is reached. . The welding temperature is hardly controllable if you don't have a Laser-welder. But it is also not needed if you want to enamel a Fine silver piece. The avaiable solders as IT-solder, Eutectic-solder, Enamel solder, extra hard solder or Sterling silver are full sufficient.
My “know how” is not only my merit. Often it is the result of many of my courses which I gave. By "brain storming" in the group unusual solutions were the results.

Hi Sidney,
thank you for your friendly reply.
I have consulted the catalog from zu Jeddeloh. He don't sell IT-solder. I have bought the IT-solder long time ago by Thompson enamel.

I read the discussion about eutectic and IT solder. It helps me.
For the site of Jeddelhoh, it's a pity because we find so many things at a price more interesting there than in France.
Vielen Dank.
Hi again Edmund,
Thank you for posting the information on soldering and answering my question. You are a great asset to Grains of Glass. Vince
Hi Vince,
I made a PDF-File how I make the frames for my jewelry work. You'll find it under the File:
