  Anna Margolis: Hi, has anyone ever used brass cloisonne wires for enameling?Is it even possible or will the enamel try to pull away from them? They should give less oxides than copper, right?

  Edmund jaki topik stosować do mieszania i wypełniania komórek ?  Ja używam Schauer 0100.   Edmund which the flux used in the mixing and filling of cells? I use Schauer 0100.

    Sorry, I was a time off line. From Schauer I used allways only Fondant 1W. But my favorite fluxes for silver were Soyer Flux for Silver Nr.: 619 and Soyer Finition Flux Nr.: F3. Both are very clear on Silver.

  Nancy Troske: Were you using Thompson unleaded? I'm assuming you are and if so, the expansion rates between leaded and unleaded are different. I use that difference deliberately to achieve certain effects. I'll post a picture here.

When I received all the helpful responses from the group about my cracking issues, I went back and reviewed my previous pieces where this had occurred. Definitely one of my issues was using Japanese flux with Thompson enamels. I'll never mix brands again!

I never had a bit of trouble like this when I worked with the...  moreI just came upon this discussion and wanted to say that I experienced terrible cracking, pin hole and pitting problems when I started using Japanese enamels, as much I love the colors and all. I never had a bit of trouble like this when I worked with the old Thompson leaded enamels starting from 1975 and up until I could no longer use the ones I had...they were just too old. So then I completely switched to the Japanese.........however...........I finally got so frustrated with these issues that after sometime I decided to try Soyer enamels and never had a problem again. Yes, the occasional pit occurs but overall it was like using the old Thompson leaded ones! I was so relieved and happy BUT the downside is their colors are limited compared to the Japanese.  less
