SHADING and VALUE GRADATIONS with SIFTING and PAINTING

In addition to creating interesting effects with layering colors during different firings, they can also be combined and shaded in the same layer to visually mix and create new colors. With sifting techniques one color can slightly overlap another color and if applied thinly, when fired, the color beneath will show through the color on top. If painting with enamel, two or more colors can be applied wet and where they meet, they can be mixed with the paint brush into each other. This mixing is not so much a painting technique as it is a mixing technique and the paint brush is used with an up and down motion as the grains of glass are pushed around and into each other. When two colors are blended into each other wet, they will look that way when fired, even though the blend may not look so good when the enamel has dried to a powdery finish.

Trish, where do I find on glaze enamels or pigments? I've been looking all over for them and have found none. Also could you tell me if it is necessary to grind and wash all enamels? Best wishes and thanks for your reply.
