    I need your advice.

My wife and I are hosting an enamel artist from Ukraine, Oleksii Koval, for the foreseeable future. We're providing a studio to work in and a place to live.

He makes large wall art, 1 meter square and larger. Prices range from $3,000 to $15,000, and up.

As you can imagine, the architectural art market in Ukraine is -- disrupted.

I would love advice from you as to galleries in the US or Canada that would be suitable for selling his work. I know absolutely nothing about this topic so your input would be most helpful.

    www.OleksiiKoval.com

PS - He's a really nice person and those of you close enough to Fayetteville, NC, to visit are welcome to do so.  less

Trish White I would think that the Enamelist Society would have that type of information -perhaps the Members of the Board, or Bernard Jazzar or Harold Nelson.

If you find that you are going to be in the US, let me know when and where, and what dates you might be available to teach.  Also, what you would charge and what tools/supplies we would need to have.

We just brought in Ricky Frank to teach for two different weekends.  I think everyone would love to learn what you're doing and how you're doing it.  Plus, meet a really nice guy, too!

David, thanks for building some enthusiasm for Torch Firing.I have'nt been invited to The Enamelist Conference yet,and would like to teach at Fayetteville NC if opportunity comes up. I've been invited to two other venues, the most recent is through The San Diego Enamel Guild. These same Trans enamels work well for cloisonne', though not for Torch Fired Plique a jour.I mention this because I felt very sorry to see all the effort you went to opaqued out. Most trans work well, and I hope your still trying Marcus

David, thanks for the feedback. I really challenge myself to develop my teaching skills. As an artist, I always wanted to make something for an upcoming show which i could be proud of and feel it was "just a little better, in some way" then anything I had ever made. I now try to do the same as a teacher, making each workshop a little better; I learn a little each time i teach, about enamel, about people, about myself, and about communication. It's been a fascinating new adventure for me. Hopefully, my passion for enamel comes through, as well as my burning desire for each student to feel like "they can do it too!".

    David,

This is the information NING sent me- With the bulk uploader on your NING Network, you can add up to 100 photos at a time. To upload photos using the bulk uploader, to the photos page (The Gallery on the Main Page) and click the "ADD PHOTOS" LINK. Then click the camera icon to select which images you would like to upload from your computer. If you want to select multiple photos at a time, just hold down the "Control" or "Command" key on your keyboard and click each photo. Photos you've chosen to upload will display as a list in your bulk uploader. After you add one batch, you can add even more photos to the list with the "Add More" link and remove any using the "x" button to the right of each photo, Once you are ready to upload, click the "Upload" button.

On the next page you will be able to edit the "Title", "Description" and "Tags" field for each photo. You can also choose to create a new album for those photos or add them to an existing album. When you are done click "Save" if you've add more information. You can also click "My Photos" at the top of the page to immediately start browsing your newly upload photos.

Note from Ning: If you've uploaded these photos using the photo uploader you can create an album from them and embed the slideshow into a group's text box.

Note from Trish: I did all this from the Alchemy CD and most all the images came out in the negative - I have thrown my hands up!

    Welcome David,

Thank you for joining the web site. As you can see we have an enormous group of talented artists for you to share knowledge and techiniques. We love newbies! When you have a finished piece, we encourage you to hang it up in the Gallery, as we are a web site for all levels of enameling, and we all started out from the beginning.

On our Main Page we have two forums: the left side is for members and the right side is an RSS feed from the Enamel Forum with more questions and answers from other artists.

Please feel free to comment, suggest, blog, post to the forum and enjoy our company.

    Best regards,

I can assure you the scalex will give you the ugliest look EVER.    Scalex is only to be used if no one will see it.  If I wasn't clear about that, my apologies.

If you will be hiding the back  of the piece and no one will see it, you can put a coating of scalex on it.  Then you can fire the front while the piece is on kiln fabric.   (But first follow Trish White's excellent advice, doming will make your piece stronger and less prone to warping.)

in the topic Scalex use in the forum General Discussions

When I'm doing a piece that is only to be viewed from the front, I'll put scalex on top of the counter enamel (after I've fired the counter enamel side the last time).   This lets me put it back-side down onto a firing cloth instead of using a trivet when I'm enameling the front side.  The scalex keeps the piece from melting into/sticking to the firing cloth.
