Charles Winkel: Welcome to enameling. My first suggestion you be to purchase a couple of books. One would be enameling for beginners. Cut plates 4-6 inches and learn by firing the plates to see the results before you attempt working on specific projects, and best of all have fun

The layer of enamel is very thin.

katharine wood Some purples (especially lead-free) are very temperamental on silver. Try first firing a layer of flux as a base coat first.
Do not overture anything on silver. Make sure you really have fine silver, not sterling.

Diane Anderson Hi! I use Transparent Mauve Purple 2760 from Thompson Enamels, sometimes even without flux, and have great luck on fine silver. Hope that helps!

Thanks - I got that far but was wondering if there were any tricks of the trade.  I did get a couple of quotes and portfolios through thumbtack.com, so I'm partway there!  Appreciate the feedback.

    Hi guys,

I'm looking for advice on finding a jewelry photographer in my area.  I am clueless, other than knowing that my own photos are bad...  Looking for good shots for online and jury, etc, in digital format.  I'm in Ohio.

    Thanks!
    Diane
