I probably won't spend much time here either, as I barely have anyway.  It is nice to have some friends listed though and you are right about the wealth of knowledge.  It is amazing at what is here.  I plan to do another photo transfer enamel piece at some point and bought a laser printer with that in mind.  There is information on the site about it, so maybe I won't have a problem. I did part of the process once with Mary when I took y'all's fabulous class at JCCFS.  I wish I could take more worthwhile classes!!!  After reaching a certain level of ability, growth classes are hard to find!  Hope all is well in your world!  Great hearing from you!  Happy Halloween!

Thanks for comment! I shape 0,5 mm silverwire(thread) after drawings. I then flatten them a little tiny bit in my rolling mill before I reshape then and correct all the wire-ends so there is no gaps inbetween them. This is when I must be really patient! Then I solder, saw and "finish" the piece before I start the enamelling(wich of course is not always the easiest part of it!)

Similar to Linda Dartys  saw and solder that I teach here.

we use 22 gauge(.64 mm ) for the top line work and solder onto a sterling base of18 ga(1mm)

and then depletion guild the piece before enameling

I have been using the eutectic solder for that as the enamel loves it-- used to use hard and keep the temp low so as not to flow .

I see you use mostly opaques so that is not a problem in creating higher heat.

Your work was show in a slide presentation at the Alchemy show and enamel conference and I wrote your name down to contact when I got back---small world isn't it.

Love the whimsy in your work and so beautifully crafted...

are you etching or hand gouging or stamping  or fabricating to get such crisp edges?

My new work is being well received and I love making it though it is really technically challenging because of the size .

I dont post a lot but I am trying.. the computer uses up my valuable studio time but we all need a break from the hot kilns.

  • David Wendelken I need your advice. My wife and I are hosting an enamel artist from Ukraine, Oleksii Koval, for the foreseeable future. We're providing a studio to work in and a place to live. He makes large wall art, 1 meter square and larger. Prices range from $3,000 to $15,000, and up. As you can imagine, the architectural art market in Ukraine is -- disrupted. I would love advice from you as to galleries in the US or Canada that would be suitable for selling his work. I know absolutely nothing about this topic so your input would be most helpful. www.OleksiiKoval.com PS - He's a really nice person and those of you close enough to Fayetteville, NC, to visit are welcome to do so.
