    Tonya,

Thank you for resonding- I was unaware that the color inks could be used as well- very interesting, and beautiful!

    Hi Edmund,

You can purchase decal paper from http:// www.beldecal.com- click on laser decal paper and select "clear." Not all laser printer works. Apple and HP are pretty reliable but you have to use just black and white. I don't know of any color sources to do this apart from working with a company for custom designs. Two companies I've ordered from who say they do custom (color) work are Stained Glass Elements (Netherlands) and Milestone Decal Art (NY). I have purchased both their pre-made color decals and they have been excellent. When you do your own black and white decals the end results fire to a sepia tone, not black. With self printed decals it's pretty similar to purchased ones except you need to let the ink set for about 5 minutes prior to the regular water soak and slide. Firing is around 1300-1350F for ~ 2 minutes at jewelry scale. Hope that helps!!!

    Hi Mary Rose,

Undercoat fires pretty standard- same as Foundation, which is the other white I've had the most experience with. Antique white seems to be a very slow to melt white but I've had limited experience with it so I'd need to verify that with more tests. I typically use Undercoat but if Antique does prove as hard to melt as I think it might be a better base layer in future. I make jewelry so my average time to fire, for example, is about 1.5 to 2 minutes at 1450-1500F for a piece that might range between 1 to 2 inches in diameter. That's just a rough average but I hope that helps!

    Hi JulieB,

Ahh, yes putting in such a large thermal mass as a cold kiln shelf will also dramatically affect the ability of the kiln to recover. Glad the info was of some help! Edmund also posted some firing info on the grinding thread which is also helpful. He rightly pointed out that everyone has to get used to how their kiln behaves (they all have their own personalities :-) ) and take into account where the pyrometer is. If I recall correctly, he figures a 100C difference between his firing position and the pyrometer reading in his kiln. I do take that into account for my firings as well and do a little mental guesstimating as to what my firing position temp is versus what the kiln is reading (my pyrometers are at the back of my klins as well). It may be a small difference but when you have a particularly tricky firing it's good to keep that kind of thing in mind. :-)

    Hello Everyone,

JulieB I do think those are the right ones! Thank you! Edmund, the kaolin and wallpaper glue trick is ingenius! I really dislike Scalex and as well I never seem to have any handy. Being able to mix up my own version when I need it is brilliant and what a great alternative to the lotus root and Klyr-fire as a holding agent as well. Ricky, thank you so much for commenting on this! I am definitely going to watch the video you posted. It  does look like a great machine. I'll update the thread once I've tried some of these techniques to see which is working for me. There are probably plenty other enamelists like me out there who also have aging hands! Thank you again!!!
