I have not done anymore engraving but I was very pleased to have had my enamelling work accepted by the NSW Craft Gallery in the Rocks. There are a few more avenues that I am exploring for this year so fingers crossed for them. Have fun with your new studio.

Have you been ok after the quake? I can't remember how close to Christchurch you were. Have you heard anything from Ann Visser Cox?

I hope all is well with you

I prefer japanese leaded enamels over unleaded because of the clarity of colour that I find I can achieve. I have not been enamelling for long and I am definitely still learning, and hope I always will. There are so many methods to try but I want to get really competent in one before I move to another. Having said that I have just bought some painting enamels so I am going to have a go at that very soon. All the best, laura

The house that they rent is undamaged though they were without water and electricity until last night. Thomas said that the university is so untouched that he only became aware of the enormity of the quake as he was walking home immediately afterwards. Richard's work building has been "red stickered" which means that they are not  allowed back in. He fears he may have lost some personal items including the hard drive he had been using to copy and save some documents and photo's of sentimental value!

Congratulations on getting your work accepted. I will watch Grains of Glass for more news and please send me an invitation when you have your first exhibition.

I am in New PLymouth but my son and husband are based in Christchurch. I have just been to pick them up from the airport. They are both fine , although somewhat traumatized. Though, like good kiwi men they are putting on a brave front. I hope a few weeks with me fussing over them will help. Being so far from them was distressing in its own way. I texted Ann on Wednesday and she said that she and her hubby were fine. News is that the Arts Centre where her studio is, has been damaged but saved by the recent earthquake proofing that was done. I imagine that there will be a lot of damage of equipment etc in the building though. How has your work been going? Have you done much lately? I am about to move into my parents home ( they move to a retirement village) and set up my studio. can't wait!  less

I am making a foray into enameling as a business as well as hobby. Let's see how well it works out. The problem is that there is not much awareness amongst the people in India about enameling. Hence the market for enamel art and jewelery is very limited. What's the scenario in Australia?

I was asked by Trish to explain how I got this little fine silver dragonfly to attach to the silver lilypad. It was really very easy but as this was a first attempt I was initially very nervous about the outcome. I completed the pendant as normal, then I grooved out a small area on the glass where the head of the dragonfly was to go. I sweat soldered some easy solder onto the body of the dragonfly that was to sit on the silver, and then applied flux to both the dragonfly and to where it was to sit. I was very careful not to get flux on the glass as I was sure this would result in something terrible.
Then I fired it as normal which for me is 800C for about 1.5 mins. As easy melts at less than that I was confident it would flow. It did, very nicely, and the head of the dragonfly also adhered into the glass. There you have it..and as I said very simple.  less
