These photos are from the Enamel Studio we have set up at Jindal Iron & Steel Company
near Mumbai, India.
The studio was set with a big kiln (2.5' x 2.5') by Ms. Veenu Shah,
President of the Enamelist Society of India
and Ms. Sangita Jindal, Chairperson of Jindal South West Foundation in Nov. 2004
The first workshop was conducted by Ms. Elizabeth Turell (UK) very successfully
with 20 participants.
After that due to internal problems this studio was shut down and the kiln was placed
in the scrap yard. In 2008, I tried to get this kiln set up in my own studio, but
the Jindal staff suggested we request Mrs. Jindal to reinstall this kiln and reopen the studio for enamelers.
She agreed but with the conditions that all the Enamelers bare the expenses.
In January, 2010 I conducted a successful workshop under Timeless Moment Art Academy
with 10 participants in this studio. But we only used steel from the Jindal Steel Factory
and faced a lot of problems in pre-coating the steel.
In the second and third workshops we decided to use pre-coated steel plates and copper.
These photos are from the third workshop with 11 participants. The main concept of
this workshop was to introduce screen printing and exploring 3d art forms in copper
and use of various fluxes. Most of the artists are members of Grains of Glass and are
experts in their fields of Fine Art, Ceramic, Jewelry, Fashion Designing etc.
