My ancestor sure does have have some intense eyes and I cannot help but to wonder what he is thinking?

Kudos to a talent. Elegant work, interesting mounting. Can you shed some light on the inner frame with the oblong shapes. Does not look like part of the silver base and if not...is it enameled and mounted to the silver base.
