Hi Adrian, I've had a look to your samples. I think you should use a slightly higher temperature. Another tip: Burn not by looking onto the watch, but have a look to the workpiece during firing. Once the enamel surface is smooth, the enamel is normaly fired perfectly.
In the high-melting fondant samples in my opinion either the enamel layer is too thick, or the firing temperature was too low.
But, as a rule, take as flux under transparent enamel on copper at the best the softer flux Schauer 1W.
Continued success
Edmund
Welcome Edmund.
I use the oven Efco and do not know what is the temperature. About 800 degrees.
The oven is 60 seconds.
Buy a topic Schauer 1W and I'll do the test again. Reduce the amount of enamel and increases the time in the oven. I watched the surface is equal.
I'll do the photos and put an forum.
Edmund Thank you for your valuable advice. :-)
I have a little experience.
I tried to do other templates
Here to get the color of lapis Lazuri.
Imposed on a white enamel undercoat Milton Bridge.
To the oven for 60 seconds.
Witaj Edmund.
Używam pieca Efco i nie wiem jaka jest temperatura. Około 800 stopni.
W piecu są na 60 sekund.
Kupię topik schauer 1W i zrobię test od nowa. Zmniejszę ilość emalii i wydłużę czas w piecu. Będę obserwował czy powierzchnia jest równa.
Zrobię fotografie i wstawie na forum.
Dziękuję Edmund za cenne rady. :-)
Mam mało doświadczenia.
Próbowałem robić inne wzorniki
Tutaj by uzyskać kolor lapis lazuri.
Emalia nalożona na biały podkład Milton Bridge.
Do pieca na 60 sekund.
Wynik.

Hi Adrian,
I hope that you do not find rude if I make you a proposal to make your sample plates. This method is less labor intensive and more meaninfull.
1) Make an approximately 10 x 10 cm plate of 0.8-1.0 mm thick copper. Drill a hole for hanging the finished plate.
2) Enamel the back with counter enamel
3) Clean the front side thoroughly.
4) Overcast the first column (Miedz) and the last column (Bialy) with a strip of wet paper.
5) Spray over the whole plate a little holding agent.
6) Sieves on an approximately 1 mm thick layer on Flux.
7) Remove both paper strips so that you'll get 2 bare copper strips.
8) Dry the enamel and burn the plate.
9) After cooling, clean the two bare copper strip and fill on the fifth strip opaque white enamel on. Simultaneously you can lay on strip 2 + 3 silver foil.
10) After firing, you must still fill onto strip 4 a layer of silver flux. After drying the whole, fire the plate again.
11) Now the plate is ready and you can deposit the transparent enamel at right angles to the strips into 1 cm brad strips. Deposit the enamel in the wet inlay technique. You can apply all transparent enamel strips in a single pass.
12) After all colors are spread and dried, fire the plate again. The sample plate is ready. Don't forget to write the color identification-number next each strip.
So as you can see in my finished sample plate (right) I have not filled a white-opaque-enamel-strip in my sample plate as underground for transparent enamels. I don't like transparent enamels over a white underground. In my opinion the transparent enamels lose all her brilliance over white. If I work nto copper instead of Silver, I find a silver foil is a good alternative to massive silver.
You find this project also as PDF Datei below so that you can download it

Welcome Edmund:-)
Thank you very much for the tutorial.
I'll template according to your instructions.
I have to look at the silver Schauer flux because in Poland it is not.
Mention it because this film which I have terrible tears and burns. I put the 2 layers but it breaks.
Photo of the Polish translation - excellent !!!!
Yours sincerely
Leszek.
Witaj Edmund :-)
Pozdrawiam serdecznie
Leszek.
Dear Adrian,
Schauer son't call the flux for silver not Silver flux, but it is the bluish flux 2A.
Edmund
Pic left: Clockwise direction.
1) Put a sheet of foil between 2 layers of Paper
2) Fold the paper so, that the foil lay smooth between the folded Paper
3) Scrunch the 3 layer sandwich into a ball
4)Open the ball careful and flatten the foil
5) Foil with little holes
This procedure is done, so that the foil becomes crimped a bit and little holes gets. The crimped foil make the surface under the transparent enamel more lively and the holes let pass the air or moisture, which is possibly under the foil.

Hi Edmund.
So the film required the water and I sprinkle topikiem MiltonB 8100.:-(
I will not use copper wire to the silver.
I see that you are using enamel Thompson. Are better than Schauer?
Is it possible to buy in Europe (Poland)?
Thank you for your help.
Yours sincerely.

Dear Leszek,
at the moment I have not really an Idea, why the foil breaks under the blue transparent enamel. I know this craquelé only, if one with the very thin bookbinder-gold foil labored. I have only 3 explanations why the silver foil shows the cracks. 1) The foil is to thin, or 2) the subsoil and the top enamel have different coefficient of expansion, or 3) you fire it too long or too hot. Normally, the film should look like in these two examples.
Normally the foil should look like the foil on the right side of the sample plate or on the ball.
To your question: The major difference between Schauer- and Thompson enamel is: Schauer-enamels are lead-bearing, while Thompson-enamels are lead-free. Schauer-enamels were during the 19. and 20th century the preferred enamels for European professional enamellers and goldsmiths. In many European countries it is meanwhile illegal, to distribute lead-bearing enamel to nonprofessional enamellers.
From Thompson-enamels I like especially the transparent enamels. The most of it are, especially on silver, very nice and brilliant. The opaque enamels are not my favorites. This are not so nice in color and not so brilliant as the lead-bearing enamels.
Unfortunately it is not so easy to combine lead-bearing and lead-free enamels. If you do so it is important to fire the lead-free under the lead-bearing enamels.
You can buy Thompson enamels via Internet by Tom Lundsten/Denmark. Here the address of his HP: http://www.enamelsupply.com

Welcome Edmund.
The film is very thin.
How thick should be ordering a jeweler?
This test what I do it:-) it's ok.
Today the second attempt with foil.
Foil and into the oven for 30 seconds
Ultimately, I want to work on silver plate. It can guilloche, engrave.
Thank you for explaining the differences Schauer - Thompson:-)
I have a lead-free enamels Milton Bridge. I use to counter enamel and white dial watch.
Thank you for your help.
Regards.

What enamel you used for the flux? probably the flux have different expansion rate than the top enamel and this tear the foil.It happened when I used on bottom layer Schauer flux,Ninomiya and on top Soyer flux. The Ninomiya enamel have different expansion rate and this combination will crack anything you will do.Or you don´t have the enamelling silver foil just the thin type for restorers.Enamelling foil is thicker. The best enamels for me are Ninomiya but there is not distributor in EU, 2nd best are Soyer, but they don´t have some of colors I like, then Schauer and Latham,Milton Bridge,EFCO is ....not good:)
Rudolf
Hi Rudolf
The film even put an extra layer of flux?
Is Ninomiya is a Japanese enamel? In Poland I am a distributor of Japanese enamel. I bought the blue (lapis lazuli) is great. Price high:-(.
Thank you for your help.
Leszek Yours
I think like Rudolf that you with 2 enamel which have different expansion coefficients operate. But next this I tried to the thickness of the Silver Foil find out which I use. Because I don't have a accurate scales, I go to a pharmacist and he weigh it for me. The weight of one my 13 x 13 cm large Silver Foil is 0,44 g. From this I calculate a thickness of the foil of 0.025 mm. I hope i don't make a mistake.
Here: http://www.dukatshop.de/Echtgold-/Silber-FOLIE/Silber-Folie:::168_410.html they sell Silver-foil for enamelling. If I calculate correctly, these films are about 0,035, and 0.04mm thick.
Important is, that the enamel layer is absolutly smooth and flat without any holes before one apply the foil.
Edmund
Hi Leszek
Probably you need silver foil for enamelling-http://www.cooksongold.com/category_select.jsp?query=Silver+Foil+100x100mm+For+Enamel+Work&queryFromSuggest=true.
If you have japanese enamels-Ninomiya or Kujaku please send me e-mail to rudolf.molnar@outlook.sk I will buy some, they are the best I ever have.
Thank you

Hi Adrian,
Moim marzeniem jest , aby ktoś przyszedł do mojego studia i zrobić próbki jak twoje dla wszystkich moich słoikach !
Welcome Trish.
With Polish too far to the USA :-))))))))).
Today, another tester colors.
to the furnace
enamels ..
Leszek
To wygląda świetnie, ale jeśli mogę coś zaproponować , aby uzyskać płynność zasięg bez małych grudek - za pomocą małego narzędzia wibracyjny o krawędź metalu , podczas gdyszkliwo jest mokra , a zobaczysz rozprzestrzenianiu szkliwa do gładkiej powierzchni , jak wibracje wstrząsnąć ziarna .
And how is the look of the finished piece?
Edmund
Thank you Trish.
This is very good advice. After vibrating enamel evenly arranged.
Thank you for your help. :-))
Welcome Edmund.
